Located in Michigan and currently held at Manresa Retreat Center in Bloomfield Hills, just outside of Detroit, St. Michael’s Conference for Youth Midwest offers one of the finest Christian formation programs anywhere!
Sprung from its sister conference in Massachusetts, St. Mike’s Midwest is designed to serve youth aged 12-21. The conference follows a traditional program of prayer, heart-felt worship, solid education in Christianity which is orthodox, both catholic (for all Christians) and evangelical, an exhilarating mix of fun, good food and fellowship. Mere Christianity, Anglican in flavor, but open to all. Faith and religion that opens the young heart to Christ and His Church.
Mornings are dedicated to learning and afternoons and evenings to fun. Above is pictured one evening activity that new conferees sometimes view with trepidation, but everybody loves it once they have tried it. There are spots, games, contests, a talent show bursting with laughter and song, No one is left out and everyone is friends in days as each teen becomes appreciated for their individuality and their valuable contributions.
Traditional Catholic and Evangelical worship typical to the Episcopal and Anglican churches. Morning and evening prayer as well as Holy Communion and compline. (Some services are optional, some are mandatory for all.) These hours of prayer, praise and hymnody frame the rhythm of the conference day. Kids tell us all the time that they are happier, more peaceful and communal when they live this way.
It is the hope of the staff and counselors that this sense of God's presence in prayer, worship and daily life will inspire our youth throughout the year. Many teens tell us their spiritual life has deepened and their faith strengthened (and some came back to their faith).
